Democrat and Chronicle stated that the OEM is enquiring as to whether it can get tax breaks from local authorities in Webster, New York for an expansion of its toner plants, which could create 25 jobs at an investment of $35 million (€26.8 million).

The County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency is set to hold public hearings concerning Xerox’s enquiries, with the tax breaks understood to be cutting around $441,000 (€338,067) from the cost of the proposed project if approved. The site’s building 216 is Xerox’s emulsion segregation (or EA) toner plant, and was expanded in 2011 after going into operation in 2007.

The application also names some locations outside of the USA in its application, which it states would “boost” toner production capacity for the OEM. The expansions would total 55,000 square feet, as well as adding around $30 million (€22.9 million) of brand new equipment for the production process, with construction said to be able to be completed by early 2015.

5,900 people are currently employed at the Webster facility, including 40 in the building earmarked for expansion, and 25 roles would be created in process operations, quality control and maintenance, with salaries said to reach an average of $45,000 (€34,496), with public consultation open over the next two weeks on the expansion.

Xerox spokesman Bill McKee stated: “As one of the world’s largest producers of toner, we have looked at several alternatives on how and where to expand our manufacturing capacity. We could build additional space in Webster or since we ship toner globally, we could manufacture it anywhere.”
