Canon officially opens Canon Americas headquarters

Canon Americas headquartersCeremony held to mark opening of headquarters in Melville, New York, attended by Chairman and CEO of Canon Inc.

Fujio Mitarai, Chairman and CEO of Canon Inc., joined President and CEO of Canon USA Joe Adachi along with local officials to celebrate the official grand opening of Canon Americas’ new 700,000 square-foot headquarters, which joins London and Tokyo as one of the company’s three headquarters locations, with the Canon Americas headquarters serving all North and South American countries.

The five-storey headquarters features an on-site showroom for product demonstrations, and is said to be “a model for environmental stewardship and innovation”, offering features such as daylight harvesting, drought resistant vegetation and 12 electric vehicle charging stations. The site also includes two ponds, with 20 percent of the land remaining in a vegetated state.

Adachi commented on the event: “The official opening of the Canon Americas Headquarters is an exciting time for our Company and we are grateful for all of the local support we have received along the way. Canon’s dedication to the environment and the community is an integral part of our corporate culture. The headquarters, which is designed to meet LEED® gold certification, will serve as a symbol of this commitment.”

Senator Charles Schumer added that the headquarters would provide “over 1,400 jobs on Long Island”, deeming Canon “an asset to the local economy […] I am proud to have seen this project through to fruition”.
