Wide Format Online reported on the device’s launch as part of the OEM’s Designjet range, with the Z5400 a postcscript eprinter aimed at helping customers “increase their print offerings” without a “large capital investment”.

The 44-inch (1.11 metre) machine is, according to HP, designed to help copy shops “fulfil urgent and diverse print requests […] quickly and efficiently without compromising quality”, and features two-roll media, automatic switching, smart drop placement technology through six photo inks and a print resolution of 2,400 x 1,200 dpi.

The smart drop placement technology, called Multi-Dimensional Smart Drop Placement Technology, is said to provide “increased levels of colour accuracy for reliable operation”, detecting and in turn correcting “ink placement errors during printing to increase efficiency and reduce waste”. The machine can also utilise HP’s Instant Printing PRO programme to edit and print PDFs, TIFFs and JPEGs, and allows for USB printing, with prints both “durable” and “water-resistant” for “up to 200 years”.

Ramon Pastor, Vice President and Manager of Large Format Printing at HP, stated: “Our customers are constantly under competitive pressure to differentiate their print offerings and meet tight deadlines. To help our customers address these needs, HP continues to deliver innovations built to fit the varying demands of graphic professionals.”
