600 printers and copiers to be sent to schools across Romania as parliament aims to reduce paper waste.

Romania-Insider reports that Romania’s Chamber of Deputies plans to donate all 600 of its printers and copiers to schools as part of the Romanian Parliament’s programme to reduce paper waste.

The Chamber’s management has so far set up 12 copy centres for its staff and MPs after gathering 100 printer and copier machines, with 150 copy centres planned to be in place by the end of the project. Each centre was equipped with printers already owned by the Chamber, meaning that they were set up at no additional cost.

The programme began in June with the elimination of all printed materials within the Chamber of Deputies’ Permanent Offices; with the measures estimated to cut costs by up to €660,000 ($877,000) a year and reduce the number of documents printed in the parliament by around 3.5 million sheets, saving 200 trees.

The printers and copy machines will be donated to 600 different schools selected by the Chamber.
