Cease and desist order issued in office supply scam

GavelWyoming-based company ordered to stop business operations in North Dakota.

NewsDakota.com reported on Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem’s decision to issue a cease and desist order against office supply company Direct Recovery Service Inc., as well as its principals Ben Thompson, Ria Jones and Shawna Sue Murphy of California, after ruling that the company had been involved in an “office supply scam” in North Dakota.

A complaint was reportedly received by Stenehjem’s Consumer Protection Division from individuals claiming that Direct Recovery Service had “threatened legal action to collect on a bogus bill for toner cartridges and other office supplies that were never ordered or received”, as well as making “false statements about proof of delivery” of the office supplies in an attempt to get payment.

“This is a classic office supply scam with an additional twist of threats of legal action to collect on a bogus claim for office supplies that were never ordered or received,” Stenehjem stated.
