Voxy reported on the launch of the three PIXMA devices from Canon, with all three machines photo printers. The PIXMA MG5560, MG6460 and MG7160 are all said by the OEM to “bring a new level of connectivity to home printing, providing direct access to cloud services and social networking sites, and making printing photos and documents easier than ever”.

The printers are all WiFi-enabled and have links to Canon’s PIXMA Cloud Link programme as well as its PIXMA Printing Solutions app for mobile devices. Cloud Link allows users to access social networks and photos online in the cloud directly from the TFT display on the device, whilst the Printing Solutions app allows users to control the machines from a tablet or smartphone. Each of the machines is also compatible with Apple’s AirPrint and Google’s Cloud Print mobile applications.

The TFT screens on each machine scale up depending on the device, with the MG5560 featuring a 6.2 centimetre screen, the MG6460 7.5 centimetres and the MG7160 8.8 centimetres. The latter two printers also feature PictBridge capabilities – photo printing directly from compatible cameras –  as well as printing from memory cards. All three devices in turn have energy-saving features such as automatic duplexing and an automatic power-up setting.

In terms of consumables, the MG5560 and MG6460 use five individual ink tanks, with the MG5560 featuring print speeds of 12.2ipm (images per minute) in monochrome and 8.7ipm for colour. The MG6460 meanwhile reaches 15ipm in monochrome and 9.7ipm in colour, whilst the MG7160 reaches 15ipm in monochrome and 10ipm in colour, and also features a grey ink tank as well as the ability to print “directly onto inkjet-printable discs”.

Optional XL cartridges are available for users that want to “print more for less”, and the MG5560 and MG6460 are available from October, whilst the MG7160 is already available.
