Opening of customer support centre by Canon subsidiary will employ 150 people over three-year period.
Kob.com reports that Canon Information Technology, a subsidiary of Canon, plans to open a customer support centre in Albuquerque, New Mexico that will see the company hire 150 technology support and customer service representatives, on an average annual salary of $35,000 (€25,800), over a three-year period.
The new centre will serve to “support small office and consumer imaging products” such as printers and copiers as well as digital cameras; along with supporting Canon’s professional printing, cinema and eCommerce customers.
According to the article, nine cities had been competing for the new centre, with Yuichi Ishizuka, General Manager at Canon Imaging Technologies, explaining that Albuquerque was selected “specifically because the area has a reduced exposure to weather-related disruptions, the ability to service multiple time zones, and an educated workforce, a large percentage of which has bilingual capabilities, all of which help us serve our customers better”.
Operations at the centre are expected to commence in April 2014, with hiring due to commence early next year.
