Cowan Office Supply will provide cash to Kalein Hospice for every ink or toner cartridge purchased.

Nelson Star reported on the Nelson, British Columbia-based office supplies company’s initiative, which will donate money to Kalein Hospice, which works to “shift the cultural needle” by educating people that “death is a natural part of life and life should be lived to its fullest at all stages”.

The arrangement, a “socially conscious donation” from the company through its customers’ “environmentally conscious” purchase of its remanufactured cartridges, will see CAN$5 ($4.85/€3.50) donated for each toner cartridge purchased and CAN$2 ($1.94/€1.42) for each inkjet cartridge. In the first two weeks of the programme over CAN$310 ($301/€220) has already been donated, with the programme running until 31 December.

Paul Cowan of Cowan Office Supply stated: “We think this is such a great program for everyone. It’s good for the environment, good for the customer’s pocketbook and as a socially conscious company, we wanted to support Kalein too.” He noted that Kalein’s work “on a broader social scope” is one of the main reasons he “chose to benefit” the organisation.

Kalein Board Chair, Brooke Leatherman, added: “[The donations are a] wonderful example of community building. Cowans has a history of being proactive in the community and this is a great partnership.”
