OEM lays-off 48 workers at its Dartmouth call centre.
CBC News reported that Xerox Canada is to cut 48 jobs at its call centre in Dartmouth, with Xerox spokesman John Quinn explaining that the company’s plans for 2014 do not require “four dozen employees” to operate at the centre.
The role of workers at the call centre is to support business clients, and 135 employees will remain at the site following the job cuts, which are due to happen either immediately or after a 30 or 60 day notice period.
“Decisions like this are never taken likely, and [are] certainly not easy,” Quinn said, “but I can say that those employees that were impacted will be provided with support to assist in finding a new place to continue their careers.”
The Recycler reported in early October on the closure of a Xerox call centre in North Carolina that would result in up to 500 lay-offs, although the OEM claimed that it would place more than half of the workers within other Xerox operations in the area. Further Xerox call centre job cuts were announced in August, with 67 lay-offs affecting the company’s north Raleigh call centre, also in North Carolina due to a “change in business conditions”.
