The OEM registered 3,825 patents in 2013.
Market Watch reported on the announcement from the OEM’s US subsidiary, which noted that its “commitment and investment in research and development” helped it register 3,825 patents, 20 percent more than in 2012.
Canon ranks third in terms of all US patent holders for 2013, and for the ninth consecutive year it also held top position among Japanese companies in the US. The new patents, the OEM noted, “will allow [Canon] to expand into new product categories while improving on core technologies”, and will enable it to “remain a leader in patents held year after year”.
The company said in its statement: “Canon puts great emphasis on providing technology that is ever-changing. Through close cooperation between Canon’s technology and intellectual property divisions, the company aims to improve its technological capabilities while further enhancing its intellectual property rights.”
Seymour Liebman, Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for Canon USA, stated: “The patents issued for 2013 are a symbol of our commitment to innovation and growth. Research and development is a top priority at Canon because it enables us to tap into new markets and bring advanced products to our customers.”
