The OEM’s machine and cartridge recycling centre and sales centres will take part in the scheme.
IDG reported on the new system, which also includes Teijin Ltd. and Onward Holdings, based on the former’s ECO CIRCLE system of polyester recycling through the use of chemicals. The system was announced on 18 December 2013, and the uniforms are already used and worn at Onward, which is a uniform and clothing manufacturer.
Fuji Xerox’s Beijing sales office and Suzhou manufacturing facility, the latter of which recycles printers, scanners and cartridges, will see their 500 and 200 respective employees wear the recyclable uniforms, which will be collected after use and recycled at Zhejiang Jiaren New Materials, a company set up by Teijin to “chemically recycle […] polyester products as well as produce […] and sell recycled polyester fibres”.
The recycling process uses chemical decomposition before conversion into raw polyester, which features a purity “comparable to polyester derived directly from petroleum” and which is then turned into high-quality polyester which Onward makes into uniforms.
Masataka Jo, President and CEO of Fuji Xerox China, stated: “The three companies all commit to helping reduce environmental loads with our technologies, which led us to establishing this uniform recycling scheme. I expect that this system will raise our employees’ awareness to protect [the] environment. Fuji Xerox continues such initiatives, also by offering energy-saving products and solutions, aiming to contribut[e] to growth and reduc[e] environmental loads in China.”
