The electronics recycler has purchased Envirofone to expand its business in the UK.
The company, which collects and recycles electronics including printer cartridges and mobile phones, acquired Eazyfone Ltd., which trades as Envirofone, and which the recycler states is the “leading mobile recommerce brand for consumers”.
The acquisition was said by Redeem to be an attempt to “expand [its] European footprint”, and “cements” its position as the UK’s “largest mobile recycling company based on volume”, with the company now able to “marr[y] Envirofone’s strong consumer proposition with Redeem’s innovative processing platform to advance Redeem’s refurbishment capacity throughout Europe”.
Claes Svensson, CEO of Redeem Holdings, stated: “The acquisition of Eazyfone will enhance our processing capacity and provide new sales channels in new markets across the world. The integration of Eazyfone into Redeem’s global operations will give customers more flexibility to realise the optimum value for their used handset.
“This move is a significant step forward for both businesses. Envirofone’s consumer platform has become a powerful and trusted brand over the past 10 years, and this is something we’ll look to develop throughout the entire group. This addition to Redeem’s portfolio improves our capability to deliver market-leading buy-back, trade-in, refurbishment and wholesale solutions for operators, retailers, corporates and consumers across Europe.”
In 2012 the company was named the fastest growing recycling company in the UK, and it notes that in the UK alone, Envirofone’s consumer market “opens up” a direct-to-consumer sector worth around £11 billion ($18.2 billion/€13.3 billion), with up to 124.5 million unused mobile phone handsets thought to be “languishing” in UK homes.
