The company’s Flavors and Fragrances arm stated that the Indy Star’s reporting was “factually incorrect, misleading and highly sensationalised”.
Sensient’s Flavors and Fragrances subsidiary was reported on by the Indy Star, a newspaper in Indianapolis, Indiana (reported on by The Recycler here) for a number of safety issues pertaining to workers at its plant there, with the newspaper reporting that there were “ongoing concerns” regarding the inspection and settlements made by the company with the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA).
The company issued a statement regarding the Indy Star’s reporting of the issues, which reads: “The Indianapolis Star newspaper printed an article in August 2012 regarding safety orders issued for the Sensient Flavors and Fragrances Indianapolis plant operation by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA).
“At the time this article was published, Sensient Flavors and Fragrances had already implemented many of the procedures recommended by IOSHA. In December of 2012, Sensient resolved this matter through a settlement with IOSHA regarding the safety orders. Since then, we have worked with them in a very constructive manner to address any issues that they identified.
“Sensient Flavors and Fragrances has always had a long-standing commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all its employees. We believe the Indianapolis Star’s reporting of this matter to be factually incorrect, misleading and highly sensationalised.”
