NY Daily News reported on the high cost of inkjet cartridges, referring in particular to the recent bill passed in the state of New Jersey, but then vetoed by Governor Chris Christie, which would force manufacturers to display the average yield of their cartridges under risk of a fine for violating the law.

The news outlet gave an overview of the high ink prices that “have consumers and lawmakers up in arms”, and added that Cartridge World, which has eight stores in New York City alone, is “jumping into the pool” with plans to launch a radio advertising campaign, which the NY Daily News added aims to “stok[e] consumers’ anger”.

Greg Carafello, Cartridge World’s Master Franchisee for New York and New Jersey, stated that “people are paying a ton of money for a very small amount that doesn’t cost a heck of a lot to make”, and the news article refers to tech magazine PC World’s reviews of both OEM and remanufacturer cartridges, noting that whilst remanufactured cartridges are a cheaper option, the tests “found they often didn’t measure up”.

PC World’s Melissa Riofrio stated that “for the most part, the quality isn’t good” when it comes to remanufactured cartridges as an option, to which William Swanson, CEO of Cartridge World North America, responded by adding that “we will put our product side-by-side with anyone and let the consumer decide”.
