recycleMPS provider recycles tons of used toner products through “Zero Waste to Landfill” programme.

Sys-Con Media reported that the California-based company, in partnership with imaging consumables recycler Close the Loop, nearly doubled the amount of used imaging consumables it recycled in 2012, with nearly 200 tons of used toner products recycled last year.

The Zero Waste to Landfill programme, launched in 2008, sees the company accept used consumables from other manufacturers for recycling, and has so far collected almost 450 tons of e-waste since the programme began. After collection, the consumables are broken down by Close the Loop into component parts, toner, plastic and metal, which are then recycled and introduced back into the market for reuse.

Toshiba, in partnership with Close the Loop, uses the recycled toner products to make eLumber to create outdoor products such as park benches, fences and garden boxes for community organisations and non-profits; with plastics from the consumables turned into products such as rulers and pens.

Tom Walter, Chief Green Officer at Toshiba America Business Solutions, said: “Since the very beginnings of our company, Toshiba has placed an emphasis on taking the extra step to do what is necessary to preserve and maintain the environment. Our Zero Waste to Landfill initiative certainly aligns with our objective to eliminate e-waste from entering landfills. By making it as easy for our customers as possible – from sending the collection box to shipping the spent toner products to Close the Loop – our end users are completely engaged and the dramatic year-over-year increases are evidence of this success.”
