The OEM has discussed how it has helped “reduce environmental impact[s]”.
HP reported that more than 75 percent of its inkjet cartridges, and 24 percent of its toner cartridges, are manufactured with “closed loop” recycled plastic to help customers “save resources and generate less waste”.
The OEM noted that the announcement “represents a 50 percent increase in the number” of cartridges manufactured with recycled plastic in the last year alone, giving customers “more options for purchasing cartridges made with recycled content”. The increased recycling forms part of its Living Progress strategy, whereby it is “identifying opportunities for action and innovation”.
The plastic recycling, HP notes, is “helping customers reduce their environmental impact and reduce the overall environmental impact of product use”, whilst the plastic used comes from returned cartridges in addition to recycled bottles and coat hangers. The OEM estimates that since 1991 it has kept 566 million cartridges “out of landfills”, and that since 2005 it has used 2.5 billion used plastic bottles and 1.1 million pounds (lb) worth of clothes hangers in the plastic used in its cartridges.
In addition, HP believes that it has manufactured over two billion new inkjet and toner cartridges with recycled plastics, with a 33 percent lower carbon footprint and 54 percent lower fossil fuel consumption in production “than new plastic”. It adds that all of this is part of its “ongoing commitment to bring our people and technology together to solve society’s challenges” and make “responsible choices when printing”.
Stephen Nigro, HP’s Senior Vice President of Inkjet and Printing Solutions, commented: “Our customers want high-quality printed content for both business and personal documents—without breaking their budget or compromising their commitment to environmental responsibility.
“From cartridges with recycled plastic to energy-efficient printing products and waste-reducing packaging design, we are offering customers solutions that make it easy for them to enjoy cost and resource savings in their everyday lives.”
