The OEM noted that digital consumer equipment “represents [its] principal market”.
Kyocera reported that whilst it recorded its “highest first-quarter consolidated revenue to date”, thanks to “rising sales” in its information equipment segment, sales fell in its electronic device department after “structural reforms” took place, though profit increased in both the information equipment and electronic device segments.
Consolidated net sales grew by 0.9 percent in the quarter to ¥334.7 billion ($3.31 billion/€2.47 billion), whilst profit from operations fell by 26 percent to ¥18.7 billion ($186 million/€138 million), and income decreased by 11.9 percent, to ¥30.6 billion ($304 million/€227 million).
The OEM stated that from the current quarter onward it expects “component demand to increase among producers of digital consumer equipment”, with which it will “seize such demand and aim to expand sales” of components, before increasing market share and improving profitability by “pursuing thorough cost reductions”.
