Smart printers designed for consumers and small offices.

Twice reported on the launch of Samsung’s new Smart multifunction colour laser printers, which offer wireless printing via Cloud services, WiFi Direct and NFC connectivity and are targeted at consumers and small businesses.

The devices offer “easy-to-use interfaces” and “the ability to print with just a tap or click”, with Ron Gazzola, Consumer IT Marketing Vice President at Samsung, commenting: “As they become increasingly reliant on mobile devices, consumers are demanding solutions that allow them to seamlessly print from a phone or tablet without physically connecting to a printer […] Samsung’s Smart printers meet that need, and we’re excited to expand availability of this line by stocking them in office superstores starting this summer.”

The new printer models available at Office Depot and OfficeMax include the SL-M2020W and SL-M2070FW, both of which offer print speeds of 21ppm and NFC technology. The former is priced at $129 (€102) and offers wireless connectivity through Samsung’s Mobile Print app; while the latter is priced at $209 (€165) and offers four-in-one printing solutions.

Also available are the SL-C1810W, which is priced at $299 (€236) and offers Rendering Engine for Clean Pages (ReCP) technology for sharper text along with wireless printing with NFC technology, Google Cloud and the Samsung Mobile Print app; and the SL-C460FW, which is priced at $399 (€315) and offers a four-in-one solution, wireless printing and print resolutions of up to 2,400 by 600 dpi.

Meanwhile, models available at Staples include the SL-M2830DW, which is priced at $159 (€125) and offers wireless printing; the SL-M2880FW, which is priced at $299, has speeds of 29ppm due to its 600MHz processor and offers a four-in-one solution; and the SL-C410W, which is priced at $229 (€181) and offers a small footprint and NFC technology.

At the higher end of the market are the SL-M3870FW and SL-C1860FW. The former is priced at $399, offering a four-in-one solution, a paper tray with a capacity for up to 58 pounds of media weight, Wi-Fi Direct, an Eco button that activates double-sided and 2-up printing, skips blank pages and Toner Save mode. Meanwhile, the latter is priced at $449 (€354) and also offers a four-in-one solution along with a 4.3-inch colour touchscreen and compatibility with Samsung’s Mobile Print app and Google Cloud Print.
