The MPS plan offers a free printer to businesses signing up.
Forbes writer Gene Marks wrote about Xerox’s new scheme to help small and medium sized businesses cover the cost of printing by giving colour printers, free of charge, to businesses that sign up for the Small Office Savings Plan.
The businesses that receive a printer would pay a monthly fee to the partners they received their colour printer from, which covers the cost of all the supplies, including paper and ink, with a flat monthly fee.
Xerox has stated that the printers available under this channel-only plan are the Xerox Phaser 6500, 6600 and 7100 or the Xerox ColorQube 8570. The company also throws in free on-site service and support with each device, withboth one and two year plans available, with the two-year plan ranging from $59 to $149 (£36.17 to £91.35/€45.94 to €116.04) per month.
David Bates, Vice President of Marketing at Xerox, told Forbes: “We’re responding to what our small business customers want,” “They don’t want to buy and own hardware. They want flexibility. They want predictable costs.” He added that supplying printers free of charge in a scheme such as this is not a new concept, as “we all know the deals where you can buy a new PC and get a printer thrown in for nothing […]many of our printers are sold below cost”.
Bates also mentioned how it will benefit Xerox: “This plan is a way for us to not only attract SMBs but an aggressively different way for us to build a revenue flow.”
