Blue_AngelOEM makes it to final round of this year’s Blue Angel environmental awards.

Kyocera announced it is in the final round of nominees for the Blue Angel Award 2014, which honours companies that have made outstanding efforts towards achieving the goals of Blue Angel’s environmental protection values; with the winner to be announced by a 15-person jury at this year’s German Sustainability Award ceremony on 28 November.

Noting that it is “no stranger” to Blue Angel’s jury, Kyocera stated that it became the first imaging equipment manufacturer to achieve the eco designation in 1997 when its FS-1700 printer received the Blue Angel label, with 50 of its printers and MFDs now possessing RAL-UZ171 certification, meaning that they comply with over 100 environmental and safety requirements covering use of environment-friendly materials, low energy consumption and recyclable design among other factors.

The OEM also stated that its ECOSYS laser printers produce 75 percent less waste than conventional devices as the only consumable they use is toner, while the company also established its own environmental award in Germany, the Kyocera Environment Award, which rewards companies for innovations to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Tracey Rawling Church, Head of CSR, KYOCERA Document Solutions UK Ltd, said: “Being one of the best known eco labels, the Blue Angel has always meant a great deal to Kyocera. The designation’s high standards are key guidelines for our engineers in their product design work. We have been designing our printers to be more resource-efficient than conventional models since 1992 and we’re very proud of our nomination, which we see as recognition of our efforts on behalf of the environment.”
