Italian remanufacturer announces certifications for health and safety and environmental claims.
IR Italiana stated that the new certifications come as it aims to “continuously improve the operating organisation and the quality of products sold”, with a number of previous certifications awarded to the company including the UNI EN ISO 9001: 2008 for quality and UNI EN ISO 14001: 2004 for environmental impact.
The first of the new certifications gained is the BS OHSAS 18001: 2007 for health and safety at work, with the company explaining that it “places great emphasis on safety and health at work” and “has therefore decided to invest in the resources to better organise this aspect of operation”. IR added: “To have received this certification is a source of pride and a great satisfaction for all employees of IR.”
In terms of product certifications, IR received the UNI EN ISO 14021 ISO: 2012 certificate for environmental claims, which it described as “an intrinsically responsible statement” which certifies that the company’s products are remanufactured and live up to IR’s environmental claims, and that IR has organised a supply chain for the proper handling of these products.
IR has also adopted STMC standards (Standardised Test Methods Committee) to set some properties of toner cartridges – such as the number of pages printed, and the toner density. The company stated that in order to pursue these globally recognised standard methods, its staff have been “adequately trained by external specialists”.
Finally, IR announced that all of its products comply with the REACH regulation concerning the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances “to protect human health and the environment”. The company highlighted that this regulation “imposes new responsibilities on European industry regarding the risk management of chemicals and transference of the corresponding information bulletins concerning the safety for the professional user and, so far as it relates to the most dangerous substances, for consumers”.
In order to comply, companies are required to complete a safety data sheet (SDS) providing important information about the use of each product, and IR emphasised that “with the help of expert consultants in the field” it is able to provide the corresponding SDSs “in full compliance with this regulation” for all of its products.
IR concluded that these certifications reflect that the company is “more and more focused on quality, product quality, customer service, and last but not least, in the nature of the business as a company on the market”.
