50 people laid off in Roseville, California, as part of OEM’s restructuring plans.

Sacramento Business Journal announced that HP has laid off 50 of its employees based at its Roseville site, with the cuts reported to the Employment Development Department in December following the company announcing in April that it would reduce its printing and personal systems group in Roseville.

According to the article, the affected employees were given a notice on 23 October that 24 October would be there last day of work, with the lay-offs part of HP’s plans to cut around 55,000 jobs from its workforce as it undergoes restructuring.

At the time of the April announcement, the OEM had reportedly offered “about 250 people” alternative jobs at other HP sites, but had “declined to say what other locations would be available” to those affected; with the Roseville campus now employing around 2,250 employees – down from around 6,000 employees in the area in 2001. The main business lines remaining at the site cover “big data and server systems”.

A statement from HP said: “These changes are part of a company-wide strategy to foster bigger teams with critical mass and concentrated resources across fewer locations. This strategy will leverage closer collaboration across the organisation.”
