Chicago Tribune reported that “dozens of toner cartridges” were found in the city by police after being stolen from a warehouse, as The Recycler recently reported.

The theft was discovered by the warehouse manager of Proven Business Systems after they conducted an inventory and, according to police, “learned of a large quantity of toner cartridges […] missing from their stock totalling over $100,000 (€80,200)”.

A report from the police at the time stated that as a result of the discovery, the manager “spent the last month checking the warehouse and their paperwork to see if there was an error in the amount of items missing or in their accounting of the items” and then concluded that “on each inventory there are some items missing that can be accounted for but there has never been this many items missing in the past”.

It is believed that the “only explanation” for the missing toner cartridges “was an internal theft as there has never been forced entry to the building and the theft occurred over the span of a year’s time”; with the toner cartridges usually stored on shelves “in the open and anyone has access to them”, including more than 100 warehouse employees and overnight cleaning staff.
