The OEM will service and sell EFI’s LED and UV wide-format inkjet printers.
The agreement will see the two companies bring “advanced, high-quality wide-format inkjet imaging technology to a broader selection of the printing industry”, with an existing partnership between the two now seeing Konica Minolta “service and sell” EFI’s LED and UV wide-format inkjet machines. The “non-exclusive” agreement will see EFI target Konica Minolta’s “extensive customer base” in North America, and gives Konica Minolta a “stronger wide-format production offering”.
The deal was announced at Konica Minolta’s National Dealer Meeting in Los Angeles, USA, and adds to the current work undertaken by both companies in developing “digital front ends”. Among the machines to be sold by Konica Minolta will be EFI’s hybrid roll and flatbed wide-format machine, the H1625 LED, which features a 65-inch wide print, four colour greyscale printheads and “saturated colours and smooth gradations”, alongside a white ink and “cool cure” LED technology.
Kevin P. Kern, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Konica Minolta Business Solutions, commented: “This new agreement expands upon our long term partnership with EFI. The unique attributes of EFI’s inkjet products allow us to offer new capabilities to our Graphic Communications Customers, providing them access to new markets for high-value print.”
Frank Mallozzi, EFI’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, added: “EFI has a longstanding, successful strategic alliance with KMBS centred on the development of EFI Fiery products for Konica Minolta production equipment, and we are very pleased to have the opportunity to expand our partnership. We are excited that KMBS, with its extensive distribution and deep relationship with customers, chose EFI wide-format products as a high-quality inkjet graphics platform to offer to its customers.”
