The nation’s Vice Premier wants improvements made to improve China’s “overseas image”.Made in China

ECNS reported on Vice Premier Wang Yang’s address to a national conference, where he ordered the launch of a campaign to “improve the overseas image” of China’s ‘Made in China’ campaign – announced earlier this year as part of plans to boost poor growth targets for the Chinese economy.

Wang is said to want “improvements in the fight against piracy and counterfeiting”, particularly in terms of goods sold in Africa, Asia and Latin America, with anti-counterfeit plans including more work on online counterfeiting, and targeting rural and suburban consumers markets as well as the refined oil sector.

A range of programmes have been launched to “intensify” the Chinese fight against counterfeit and pirate products, with Wang reporting that in the past two years 85,000 suspects have been arrested in attempts to “contain the spread of such illegal activities”. In January 2015, the Chinese government announced the launch of a new anti-counterfeiting alliance – the China Anti-Infringement and Anti-Counterfeiting Innovation Strategic Alliance.

In November 2014, a US law firm’s founder spoke about how companies should approach intellectual property when considering doing business in China, including how to protect against counterfeiting.
