The Manzini branch of supermarket Pick N Pay accused cartridge supplier Eco Cartridge of causing its printer to break.
The Recycler has learnt that Eco Cartridge supplied a number of replacement HP 55A toner cartridges for the store. The printer had broken once before and when the cartridges were installed its gears were dirty, Eco Cartridge alleged.
Problems with the device continued, so Pick N Pay called the remanufacturer back in and said that toner from the replacement cartridges had spilt and damaged the machine. Eco Cartridge has told The Recycler that the printer would not work with the original cartridge. It also said that its cartridges never spill, and that to date it has received 100 percent positive feedback from its customers.
The remanufacturer asked an independent print technician for their opinion, who said that “the toggle gear on the cartridge – is either not engaging fully or slipping – maybe it just needs to be serviced and cleaned”.
Eco Cartridge specialises in “rebuilding laser cartridges and refilling inkjet cartridges”. The Recycler has contacted the Pick N Pay for comment, but is yet to receive any response.
