The National Drugs Control Agency and the Dominican postal service confiscated nearly a kilo of pure cocaine found hidden in inkjet cartridges and pigeon peas.
Dominican Today reported on the seizure of the two shipments, which were headed for New York and Spain. They were seized in Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Caribbean island state of the Dominican Republic.
The contraband was found during a routine check at Postal headquarters in Santo Domingo, with forensics confirming the presence of the substance among the cartridges.
DNCD spokesman Dario Medrano said one of the shipments was addressed to a woman resident in Queens, New Work, and was sent from a woman in the Santiago province, while the other was from a Santo Domingo resident to an address in Barcelona, Spain.
The DNCD is investigating both cases to discover the origin of the shipments.
