The wide-format ink manufacturer has been bought by fellow consumables manufacturer International Imaging Materials (IIMAK).
The acquisition will see IIMAK, which refers to itself as a “global leader in the development and manufacture of printing, imaging and marking consumables” acquire for sale American Ink Jet’s “wide-format inks for the specialty graphics and imaging industry”. The acquisition went through on 1 June, and includes “all formulas, brands, manufacturing assets and processes” from American Ink Jet (AIJ), and the brand name will be maintained.
IIMAK will now be able to “produce and distribute inkjet inks used for wide-format and desktop printers”, and is said by the company to position it for “continued growth in inkjet markets”. Michael Andreottola, former AIJ President and CEO, has now joined IIMAK to “focus on new product development”, and IIMAK noted that “as a chemist and pioneer in wide-format inkjet ink development, Andreottola envisions a bright future with IIMAK”.
Scott Surma, IIMAK’s Vice President of New Business Development, stated: “Specialty graphics and imaging technologies fit nicely with our core competencies in production and distribution. We will maintain the highest level of product quality and consistency, and invest in wide-format inks to meet the demanding requirements of graphic applications.”
Andreottola added: “American Ink Jet Corporation’s decision to join forces with IIMAK was done so with our customers in mind. IIMAK has a wide range of resources to explore innovations in wide-format inks and accelerate development of new products to deliver high value to meet market needs.”
