The Smart Printer Diagnostic System (SPDS) is the “industry’s first mobile” diagnostic tool.
Korea IT Times reported on the launch of the SPDS, which is a “printer error diagnostic tool” that “provides easy-to-follow image and video service manuals” to assist both engineers and consumers with printer issues. The guides are developed individually for each of the OEM’s MultiXpress printers.
The tool is said to have been “receiving positive ratings from technical service engineers and end users” ahead of its launch this week, and Korea IT Times added that SPDS is “the industry’s first mobile application consisting of image and video guides for troubleshooting printers”. Samsung’s aim for the SPDS is to “standardise the quality of IT service across service providers around the world” in terms of technical support.
The SPDS application allows users to access the SPDS server, which is the “storage [location] for official Samsung service manuals, technical information, educational videos and real-time notifications for software updates”. When using a mobile device equipped with the app, a user can receive an error message from the printer, and the app “automatically identifies the issue” before displaying a step-by-step guide, while engineers can share video footage with each other.

For consumers with “relatively less technical knowledge”, the SPDS guides can help fix minor issues with printers without the need for “calling technical support and bearing service costs”. The aforementioned “positive ratings” came from “early adopters”, who have “praised” the SPDS tool for “addressing the issue of inconsistent service that can result from service engineers’ varying levels of expertise and knowledge”, alongside “fast and accurate” responses from the OEM.
David SW Song, Senior Vice President of Samsung’s Strategy Marketing and Sales department, stated that “SPDS is an organic component of Samsung’s philosophy guaranteeing high quality in everything from product development to maintenance”. The tool is available for download from Google Play and the Galaxy App Store in 51 countries and nine different languages, including English, French and German, though users need approval from Samsung to “gain access” to the SPDS server.
