The SC-P800 A2+ device is successor to the Stylus Pro 3880, and is also due for release in New Zealand in August 2015.
Photo Review reported on the release, which is “designed for professional photographers and serious photo enthusiasts” and features flexible media handling, 80ml “cost-effective” ink cartridges and the same nine-colour ink system as the smaller SC-P600 A3+ model, released last year.
Other features that come across from the 3800 include the MicroPiezo print head and advanced LUT technology, combining to support “precise and predictable” printing, at up to 2,880 x 1,140dpi. The ink includes a large colour gamut with the highest Dmax (the blackest colour a photo printer can produce) in the market, and an advanced driver and 2.7-inch colour touch panel with gesture control.
The device incorporates a large multi-sheet rear tray and a new front paper path for fine art media, plus an optional roll paper unit for printing onto rolls with widths from 13 to 17 inches, with a variety of specialty media stocks. It ships with an “extensive” software package including the updated ColorBase2, enabling simple, quick colour calibration via a range of spectophotometers, Epson Print Layout software, which works with Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Nikon ViewNX-i.

There are pre-designed layout templates and custom settings, while colour can be adjusted to suit different presentation styles. Advanced Black and White mode is available for professional work, and the SC-P800 has soft proofing functionality, can support custom media registration and incorporates a Gallery Wrap mode with a range of edge settings.
The new body design has been engineered for a design studio or home office, with its small footprint and advanced connectivity. The printer further features USB and Ethernet connection, and is Wi-Fi enabled, allowing connection via Wi-Fi Direct or remotely via Apple Airprint and Google Cloud Print.
