The droPrinter is “designed solely for use” with smartphones, and uses thermal printing.
Paste Magazine reported on the droPrinter, which is claimed by its manufacturers to be the “world’s first and only phone printer” despite previous devices being announced and released in 2011, 2012, 2014 and earlier this year. The printer uses thermal paper to “print anything that’s seen on your smartphone’s screen without worrying about ink cartridges”.
The site notes that the droPrinter is “only the size of most smartphones”, meaning it is “easy to carry around”, and adds that the printer works by being turned on, before a “one step” and one-time connection process. This allows the user to “potentially start printing within seconds”, while a rechargeable battery will last around 12 hours or seven hours if constantly used.
Paste Magazine also points out that “there’s no proprietary paper to worry about either, with standard thermal paper commonly used and easy to pick up at many common outlets”. The device is being funded by a KickStarter crowdfunding campaign, with $50 (€45) guaranteeing the customer one droPrinter and a roll of paper. This will rise to $60 (€54) when the first machines are gone, while $116 (€105) will buy two machines.
