The Hindu reported on the arrest of a 24-year-old, Ashok Kumar, for “preparing and selling duplicate printer cartridges, toner and other materials” in a godown (or warehouse) in Austin Town, Bangalore. Cartridges were seized worth Rs 14 lakh ($21,902/€20,029), with the news site alleging that the youth “was selling the products with labels of reputed brands like HP, Samsung and Canon”.

The authorities also claimed that Kumar had been “running the racket for the past six months and selling the duplicate cartridges to stationeries and computer accessories stores” across the city. The CCB added that they are “also on the lookout” for Kumar’s supposed associate, known only as Dhiraj, who “is on the run”.

The Recycler recently reported on a Mumbai cartridge dealer being arrested for selling pirated toner cartridges, and also reported on the arrest of Chetan Dinesh Gada, owner of Jalaram Computech, in March 2015, along with Rs 3 lakh’s ($4,727/€4,276) worth of fake cartridges. 42 HP toners and 17 Canon toners were found on that occasion. A cartridge dealer was also arrested in the city in January 2013, along with 6,000 counterfeit Epson cartridges.
