The largest manufacturer of aftermarket imaging systems and components will also see staff take part in the charity bike ride.

The company sponsored the event last year, and has announced it will sponsor this year’s Rhino Ride, a two-day bike ride through the Zululand Rhino Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on 29 and 30 August. Of the 20 people taking part, four are Static Control employees based in Johannesburg, and the 70-kilometre ride will travel through the nature reserve, which is “home to many rhinoceroses and other endangered species”.

All money raised from the ride will be donated to the Zululand Rhino Reserve Foundation, which is a conservation group “focused on ending poaching and protecting endangered animals in South Africa”. Rhino poaching is a “significant problem” in the country, which is home to “the largest population of rhinos” in the world, and 1,215 were killed by poachers last year, working out at around “one every eight hours”. The poaching is said to be “predominately” driven by illegal trade in horns to Asia.

Stuart Lacey, Static Control South Africa’s Managing Director, will take part in the ride on Static Control’s team, alongside Unit Business Managers Grant Parker and Anton Swart, and Sales Representative Lorry Lacey. You can donate to the team, and learn more about the ride, at http://www.thisiskzn.co.za/travel-campaigns/rhino-ride-with-team-thisiskzn, and learn more at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zululand-Rhino-Reserve/337832182980152.

Those who donate more than ZAR100 ($7.86/€7.13) to the ride are entered into a prize draw for a two-night stay at the Mavela Game Lodge, which is a “luxury tented lodge” featuring a swimming pool and sun deck. Lacey stated: “Static Control has always been focused on environmentalism. Our industry began as an alternative to wasteful plastics. It is natural for us to extend our eco-friendly message to this issue, which is close to our hearts here.”
