Roger Madore, who bought Florida-based St. Johns Printing at the start of the year, hopes to compete with national printing companies over pricing and quality.

The entrepreneur is upgrading his equipment to enable printing of large banners, posters and glossy magazine, adding to the basic repertoire of company letterhead and business card printing, The St. Augustine Record reported.

Madore is also trying to “put the service back in the company” by connecting with customers and offering extra assistance when making deliveries, while telling them about his all-purpose print shop.

St. Johns Printing was founded almost 40 years ago by John Roundtree, and was sold in 2011 to Keith Dreir, who diversified into art supplies and even sublet part of the building. But Madore has decided to concentrate his business on printing and to create an “expert” service.

He grew up working in his father’s New York automotive shop, later leaving to pursue a military career. He said: “I wanted to buy something in St. Augustine. I live here. I really love the community.”
