The two-page article in Channelinfo’s September 2015 edition interviewed the company about remanufacturing, but erroneously suggested it had “the only cartridge remanufacturing plant in the UK”.
The piece describes ECS as a “leading independent consumables companies in Europe” and “strong believer in the circular economy” with a name “associated with sustainability, value and quality”. It details the remanufacturer’s efforts to tackle WEEE with its ‘ECS The Greener Side’ toner cartridge recycling scheme and its acquisition of Tinto Toner in 2014.
It was also stated that the acquisition helped ECS “retain the only cartridge remanufacturing plant in the UK”, a claim which UK aftermarket readers of The Recycler have disputed. This prompted David Connett, Editor of The Recycler, to write to the publication to inform them that there are “around 1,000 large and small companies in the UK that are involved in cartridge remanufacturing and at least 300 of these are active cartridge remanufacturers”.
The article additionally mentioned that ECS is a member of the European Toner and Inkjet and Remanufacturer’s Association (ETIRA) and is “fully compliant” with the WEEE Directive and Hazardous Waste Regulations.
Talking of the future, Channelinfo reported that “ECS hopes to continue to grow and to develop its green credentials” and that its ultimate goal is “to become the leader in toner remanufacturing and heavily impact on reducing the amount of toner cartridges and WEEE that are sent to landfill and overseas”.
ECS opened a UK recycling facility in Misterton, England, in July 2015, and the article stated that “with the increased capacity offered by the new recycling facility it feels confident that it can make a difference”.
