International police have warned the Cyprus Drug Squad (YKAN) that traffickers are concealing narcotics in printer cartridges and photocopier toners.
The Customs and Exile Department was also advised to increase checks at Larnaca and Paphos airports and Limassol port, in-Cyprus reported.
Detecting the narcotics, which are usually cocaine or marijuana, is difficult as even with X-ray equipment the drugs look similar to toner powder in legal cartridges.
The authorities on the island are yet to find any drugs inside cartridges, but YKAN has assured that stricter controls will be in place to further prevent entry of illegal substances.
