Chris Stoddard spoke to Business Innovators Magazine about the cartridge recycler’s work to help the environment and save waste.
In the interview, Stoddard speaks about EOS’ recycling initiatives that have helped “20 million pounds of materials” be reused and kept out of landfill, as well as how the company’s cartridge collections represent a “significant impact on new materials required for new product manufacturing”.
In terms of figures given, Stoddard claims that for every 100,000 toner cartridges EOS recycles, 150,000 pounds of plastic, 50,000 gallons of oil and 20,000 pounds of aluminium are “saved”, with the company also reportedly averaging around 290,000 cubic feet per month “of materials that are being kept out of landfills”.
He adds that “recycling is our passion […] we try to set an example with our closed-loop, zero-waste policy”, and spoke about the origins of the business in the 1980s, after he had worked for his brother who “owned one of the first printer cartridge remanufacturing companies in New England”. After realising how important empties were for remanufacturing, Stoddard decided to create a collection company, working with co-founder and Executive Vice President Mark Tosi to create EOS in 1996.
