66 percent buy from online marketplaces

ecommerceMarket research found that 62 percent of online shoppers find products using search engines, while a further 62 percent also chose retailers’ websites as places to buy from.

Statistics in the second annual Global Online Shopping study by franking machine OEM Pitney Bowes found that 78 percent of Russian consumers are likely to purchase products from online market places, while 76 percent said they would in China and the USA, OPI reported.

Consumers in Australia, the UK and Canada were also most likely to buy products directly from a retailer’s website, with 81 percent, 72 percent and 71 percent respectively saying they would.

Almost a quarter said they make most online purchases by mobile, with UK shoppers at 37 percent and India at 36 percent registering the highest, while 33 percent of millennials were found to use mobile devices.

The biggest barriers to the uptake of online shipping are higher shipping costs, delivery fees and delays in delivery arrival, with 64 percent, 48 percent and 39 percent mentioning these issues.

A third of online shoppers have bought products from foreign retailers, with Australians most likely to do this, with 63 percent of respondents saying they had.

The US, UK and Germany were the most desirable e-destinations for foreign purchases, with price being mentioned by 61 percent of shoppers for why they would buy from outside their country, with a further 40 percent for availability, and 30 percent for both quality and better selection.
