Among the cutbacks are Vipin Tuteja, who headed the printer division, as well as 35 workers in positions in or above the grade of general manager.
The OEM told some 90 employees they would be losing their job last week, and another 125 to 150 are to be asked to leave after Diwali, in November, Economic Times reported. The remainder of the cutbacks will probably be carried out in phases by December and March, with somewhere between 750 to 1,000 employees set to lose their positions unless performance increases.
There are currently about 22,000 employees in Samsung India, including workers at the company’s two factories, with the company modifying its appraisals to mean even those with average performance are being asked to leave.
Tuteja joins three other senior executives, including SK Sharma, who handled taxation, Rajinder Sharma, the former legal head who has joined Flipkart, and Sanjay Bali, who formerly headed HR.
A spokesman said: “Based on business needs, we do reorganise our workforce to deliver optimal value to our consumers and partners in the country. We care for the well-being of all our employees and we remain committed to employing talent for continuing growth in India.”
