The new SOLJET EJ-640 wide-format inkjet printer has dual staggered print heads, an integrated tri-heater system, rigid industrial design and high-capacity one-litre ink cartridges available in four or seven colour configurations.
The device uses new EJ ink, developed to “offer substantially lower operating costs”, while the OEM’s VersaWorks Dual RIP software can process both PDF and PostScript files, including files with transparencies, Packaging Europe reported.
The device is especially designed for high-volume users, with a rigid shaft to securely hold heavy rolls, and also has a feed adjuster to ensure smooth movement of media through the printer and onto the take-up system. The seven-colour ink configuration consists of CMYK plus light cyan (Lc), light magenta (Lm) and light black (Lk), for colour-matched photos, corporate colours and logos.
Ink is prevented from bleeding by the heater and blower system, while in the four-colour CMYK mode, up to two litres of ink can be loaded for each colour. Continuous printing overnight is enabled by Roland’s ink switching system, while the OnSupport technology sends an email to a smartphone, tablet or computer when a job is finished or the ink is running low.
Yuko Maeda, Division President of Digital Printing for Market Development at Roland, said: “Today’s sign market is typified by intense competition due to the spread of wide-format inkjet printers and the increasing demand for quick delivery of high quantities with low operating costs. The new EJ-640 addresses these issues by delivering excellent productivity and quality with low ink costs.
“The rail and frame structure has been reinforced to enable precise ink droplet placement for vivid image quality even at higher speeds. Roland VersaWorks Dual RIP reproduces images with beautifully smooth gradations.”
