The seven orphaned rhinos live in the ‘Care for Wild’ sanctuary in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province.
The OEM will cover all maintenance costs relating to food, shelter and medication for the animals, IT Web reported.
Once the rhinos reach sub-adult age, they will either be released into a breeding project in a firm adjoined to the sanctuary or they will be released into community-owned land next to the greater Kruger National Park.
The decision comes 10 months after the Konica Minolta South Africa team announced its ‘New Equation in Conservation’, a public-private alliance that culminated in the opening of the bizhub Conservation Academy, whose adult students will be able to learn about animal husbandry at the sanctuary.
Rural schoolchildren will also come on fieldtrips to conservation areas as part of the scheme. Andrew Griffith, Konica Minolta South Africa’s General Manager for MPS, said: “The Konica Minolta South Africa team is exceptionally proud to be able to contribute to the rehabilitation and ultimately the release of orphaned rhino[s].”
