SA report by Sharp found that staff are spending their “entire annual leaves” waiting for slow technology.
IT Pro Portal reported on the Sharp analysis, which found that UK workers “spend less time on annual leave than they do sitting idly, waiting for a tool” to work. This equates to over 167 hours or 21 days “wasted, waiting on stuff like printers”, which average around “seven minutes daily” on warming up and “10 minutes daily waiting [for] it to spit out the pages”, while waiting for server search results takes “23 minutes a day” on average.
This wasted time is costing UK businesses over £2,000 ($2,672/€2,377) per year per employee, and staff are said to be “aware of this problem”, with four-fifths stating that “their office tech is outdated”, while two-thirds said “they’d be more productive if they had better tech”, and another fifth “would stop looking for a new job if new tech were introduced”. The site concludes that if businesses “want to make your employees more productive” they should “give them better tools”.
Stuart Sykes, Managing Director of Sharp UK, commented: “Technology is supposed to make our lives easier and help us to work faster, however, in the real world, out-of-date technology and technology that is hard to use often slows people down, forcing them to waste time.
“This dead time can mean lost opportunities, lost profits and even lost employees. Businesses must wake up to the importance of connected technologies that work in sync with their employees’ changing needs and allow them to get the best out of their team, as well as making for a more motivated, more productive workplace.”
