A racially-abusive letter was found on the University of West Tacoma’s campus.
Two of the university’s printers were “attacked by a known hacker” reported The Ledger, who had, activated the printers to “photocopy” the letter. According to Susan Wagshul-Golden, Director of Campus Safety and Security, a student came across the letter in the computer laboratory and immediately informed the Safety Office, who found that it was from an external source.
Washul-Golden said: “During the investigation, we found that the responsible party is a known hacker, and he had instructed many of the open-network printers to print out the flyers and letters.” The student who found the letter, Jalen Calhoun said “I hope this is some kind of twisted joke.”
The hacker, Andrew Auernheimer, also known as “weev” used a “port scanner to search for unsecured printers”, and the letter condones “violence against non-whites” and anyone who opposes “his ideologies”, referencing a Nordic poem, Volundarkvidha, which details revenge. It also references “Andres Breivik, the terrorist who killed 77 people in Norway” in 2011, as well as likening “minorities as the plague”.
Auernheimer ends his letter by supporting Dylann Roof, a man “currently on trial for killing nine black devotees at a church” in 2015.
