The company released its quarterly achievement report.
Yahoo Finance reported that has released its “Q2 sustainability update”, and that it is using Bullfrog Power for its “entire flyer printing operation” using 100 percent “renewable electricity”. Bull Frog Power is “green electricity” made by using wind power and “low impact hydro power”, which is “sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities”.
Staples have collected over one million kilogrammes of electronics by making it easier for” customers to recycle” all technology as well as “ink and toner cartridges”, and the company said that it is “committed to diverting materials from the waste stream”. In Q2 2016, Staples and its customers have prevented “39,633.9 kg of batteries, 99,527 kg writing instruments” and “1,010,450.8 kg of electronics” going to landfill.
This is mostly done by using their delivery drivers to collect “batteries, electronics and ink cartridges” when delivering orders to consumers. The Driver Take Back programme is active in many parts of Canada, and in 2016 over 754,430 ink cartridges were collected. Staples Canada has partnered with Bullfrog Power, and since doing so uses the sustainable power for their “head office, four copy and print production centres and most recently its entire flyer printing operations”, and it also supplies the “Staples Business Advantage Head Office and its e-commerce web services”.
By partnering the renewable energy company Staples Canada will “reduce its carbon emissions by an estimated 2,926 tonnes this year”.
Pete Gibe, Vice President of Merchandising and Chair of Staples Canada Environmental Committee, said: “As one of the largest supporters of renewable energy in Canada through Bullfrog Power, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact. By Bullfrog powering our entire flyer printing operations we’re greening an element of our business that touches all of Staples’ retail locations and reaches millions of Canadians.”
