The OEM surpasses its 2015 goal for improvement of CO2 emissions.
The sustainability report shows that the company has beaten its aim of “a three percent lifecycle CO2 emissions improvement index per product” in 2014, which it has done by making products “more compact, lightweight and energy efficient” and also by applying energy efficiency during “manufacturing and transportation”.
The imageRUNNER ADVANCE C3300 series of A3 colour MFPs were developed with the “goal of reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions”, and this was done by “incorporating bio-based plastics and recycled materials on certain exterior parts”, as well as “designing housing parts that use fewer resources”, reducing the lifecycle CO2 emissions of the series by “approximately 23 percent”.
Canon initiated the Toner Cartridge Recycling Programme 25 years ago (http://www.therecycler.com/posts/canon-europe-marks-25th-anniversary-of-cartridge-recycling/), and now uses “a process of sifting and melting” to turn “toner dust into pellets”, which can be used “to make recycled products”, and it has also released an “in-house solution to recycle waste toner liquid” this year.
Seymour Liebman, Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for Canon, said: “Canon takes great pride in being a steward of the environment and of the communities in which we do business. Our commitment to the environment, whether through product design or corporate social responsibility initiatives, will remain unwavering, and we look forward to continuing these celebrated efforts for years to come.”
