The OEM talks about the total cost of ownership (TCO) and why this is a bigger concern as a business grows.
ComputerWorld reported on an article by HP Inc, which said that the initial purchase price of technology only “tells a small part of its financial story”, and that the consumer should “look at the total cost of a product over its entire lifetime” in order to decide whether it is worthwhile.
The report noted that TCO includes the cost of maintaining the product and the supplies needed to run it plus “other expenses” and that, in the case of printers, this includes “the cost of ink or toner, paper, expected repair costs and electricity”, and that even the carbon footprint of the device and the office space it occupies should be taken into account.
To calculate TCO can be complex, but even a “modest SMB” will benefit, and expanding businesses more so, as if rapid decisions are made without calculating the TCO, mistakes can be made and the “added long term expense […] can be surprisingly huge”.
By using a calculator to estimate TCO, such as this one created by HP Inc. the cost of various printer models can be calculated. The wizard will ask for the amount of users and the number of black and white and colour pages typically printed, as well as the brand of printer currently being used. It will then estimate the annual cost of the printer in use comparable with HP Inc’s PageWide system.
The OEM stated that the PageWide technology “is a brand new and unique category in professional printing” that uses “new printhead technology”, and PageWide printers can “help businesses reach new levels of efficiency, performance, and competitiveness”. By running a simple test on the calculator purchasers can see the difference in TCO, and much of that has to do with “HP PageWide’s low cost per page metric, which is in part due to its high page yields”.
HP Inc stated that PageWide is one part of “a package that makes HP PageWide the most affordable long-run choice for SMB printing. For businesses seeking advanced printing solutions, only HP PageWide printers can deliver the fastest speeds, affordable colour printing, and at a surprisingly lower cost than expected”.
