InfoTrends carried out a “primary research study” which was web-based and examined the market for “persistent print in the office”, and consisted of 750 “general office workers” from the US, Brazil, UK, and Spain. Some of the key findings of the survey were that there is a consistency in required printing of 60 percent of “people’s print volume”, and this was regardless of “age and company size”, while “40 percent of print is optional”.

The survey found that younger workers aged 18 to 29 did not “show dramatic decline in printing” as often associated with this age group. and that “traditional office environments” continue to generate the highest print volumes. It noted that two thirds of people surveyed said that “their company has taken steps to remove, simplify, or automate document related business processes”, and that “on average survey respondents spend 36 minutes retrieving digital documents” as opposed to “20 minutes for paper documents”.

40 percent of the “respondents” said that “less than one quarter of their business content remains on paper”, and summing up, Infotrends said that “for most office workers print is an important tool” in their “working lives”. On 3 November there will be a webinar in which analysts Andrew Carroll, Deborah Hawkins, Barbara Richards and Christine Dunne will “share insights” on some of the topics covered in the survey.

This will include a discussion on “optional versus required printing, printing trends by age, regional printing, persistent print and digital transformation”.
