In a press release, the remanufacturer stated that it had attained the standard for the Mexican base, noting that the achievement aids in “furthering its commitment to environmental responsibility”. The ISO 14001:2004 standard “focuses on a company’s management of environmental responsibilities including implementing an environmental management system (EMS)”, and “specifies requirements for activities such as determining environmental aspects and impacts of products, activities, and services”.

Other activities it covers include “planning environmental objectives with measurable targets” and “implementing and operating programmes to meet objectives and targets”. The remanufacturer added that “environment sustainability is a significant priority”, and “as one of the company’s core values”, it “strives to engage and educate its employees, demand quality and performance in production processes, and seek newer and better alternatives every day for minimising the environmental footprint of the company and its customers”.

It also highlighted that in August, the same site achieved the R2:2013 standard, which it calls the “premier global environmental, worker health and safety standard for the electronics refurbishing and recycling industry”. Among the company’s “environmental sustainability initiatives” are: “reclaiming as much reusable material as possible; measuring the impact of water and energy consumption to minimise waste; processing end-of-life assets that are not suited for remanufacturing; and exceeding global industry practices for responsible materials recycling”.

Ino Lando, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Clover Mexico, commented: “I want to congratulate all of our 3,600 associates and the Mexicali imaging management team as well as everybody else that played a key role in achieving this environmental standard. The process is extremely important to operating at the highest level of eco-friendly manufacturing, which is of paramount importance here at Clover.”

In May, The Recycler reported that the work “relocated to Mexico” at the Mexicali site came from the company’s site in Van Nuys, California location, which would be “eliminating” the second shift, with 205 staff to lose their jobs from June. However, CIG announced in July that the site in California would see its lease renewed until 2019, and “remain fully operational”.
