Two men have been arrested with fake Rs 2,000 (€27/$29) notes, and accused of printing the money.
Hindustani Times reported that banks in Punjab began issuing the Rs 2,000 notes five days before the men were arrested, and two others were booked and charged with printing “copies of the new currency”. Of the four men, one was unidentified – and is on the run – as Gurmilap Singh, a law student; but police held Harjinder Singh and Sandeep Kumar, who are both from Bhikhiwind.
Police searched Harjinder’s home and found a printout of a Rs 2,000 note, after which they raided Sandeep’s shop and discovered two fake notes, a scanner, printer and computer. They also found two copies of the “misprinted note” in his shop. Gurdeep Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector, said that “Harjinder and Sandeep have been arrested”, and that the police were on the look out for Gurmilap.
