The new wireless printer uses an app to send JPEG and PNG files direct to the printer, and also prints straight from a smartphone.
At 6.2 inches long and 3.2 inches wide, the printer is about the same size as the iPhone 6 and weighs 10 ounces, making it easy to carry around, reported Digital Trends. The app it uses “is available for iOS and Android”, and as well as sending JPEGs and PNG files, it can make edits to the photos, and has an assortment of templates.
Like other portable printers, Pyle’s machine uses “an inkless cartridge system”, and prints are 3.5 x 2 inches with a 291dpi resolution, with no need to wait for the ink to dry or expose the photo. Each cartridge will print 10 photos, which works out at approximately $1 (€.93) per photo, and which the site notes is a lot more than the ZINK-powered competitors.
The market for pocket printers is competitive, Digital Trends added, not least the inkless ones like Polaroid and Fujifilm printers, which also offer “smartphone users the option to print, save and share” with other apps and printers. In comparison Pyle have made their printer extremely portable, and use a “dye diffusion thermal transfer (D2T2) printing technology” for overall high quality of the photos.
The rechargeable battery is good for 25 prints, said to be comparative to Polaroid, and it also prints “borderless prints” unlike the Fujifilm one. The Pyle printer costs $100 (€93) and is available now.
